Marley Explores Africa
In 1980 the band played a concert in Gabon, their first African concert. In April of that year, the government of Zimbabwe invited the band to play at the country's independence ceremony. Marley had said that this was the biggest honour of his life. However, that honour was somewhat tainted on the opening day of the festival when he discovered that he would only be playing for the new countries elite class. Many fans clamoured at the gates to see the concert but they were held back with teargas. Marley played a second gig, for the public, on the following day although it was clear that his heart wasn't in it.
In 1980 Bob Marley and the Wailers also released Uprising.
