Tinkin' Toe
Tinkin' toe is the "affectionate" name given to the fruit from the seed pod of the locust tree. The fruit has the name for two reasons
- Firstly, the shape of the pod is similar to a knobbly brown toe
- Secondly, the fruit has an overpowering odour of smelly feet or sinking toes (tinkin' toes)
The shell of the fruit is very hard and needs to be smashed with something equally hard to open. Once the shell has been smashed open the fruit, along with its pungent smell, is exposed. The flesh of the tinkin' toe is yellow and has a powdery texture. The unusual taste is something which needs to be acquired and is not liked by everybody. Everybody does, however, agree that the smell is very unpleasant!
