Starapples is a great choice for high quality, authentic Jamaican food. This elegant restaurant specialises in Jamaican favourites such as stew peas, curried goat and, of course, jerk chicken. Other meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes are also available.
Starapples manages to successfully walk a difficult tightrope of offering authentic home-style Jamaican food in an elegant and refined setting. Price-wise the restaurant is mid-range.
Starapples sometimes has special days such as Fish Fry Fridays and Jamaican Breakfasts at the weekends.
HistoryStarapples is owned by Michael and Enez Perkins and it began life in New Kingston, at the Island Life shopping centre on St. Lucia avenue. The couple lamented the fact that they could not get good quality Jamaican food on their lunch break in New Kingston. They saw this as being a big gap in the market and opened up the first branch of Starapples in the year 2000 as a canteen-style lunch spot.
In 2005 Starapples moved to its current address and became a fully fledged restaurant.
DécorThe current Starapples restaurant is in a former private home. Although renovated and converted in to a restaurant, the property retains a homely character. The general colour scheme of Starapples is purple and green, the two colours of a ripe starapple.
Starapples has tables outdoors, indoors (air conditioned) and in a scenic backyard. There are several parking spots outside of the restaurant and a much larger parking lot slightly further down the road.
