Tel:- (1 876) 927-9105
Pastry Passions is a gourmet pastry shop, with outlets in the Sovereign Centre and Manor Park Plaza. All manner of sweet treats and pastries (both sweet and savoury) are baked from scratch on the premises, using only the finest ingredients and up-to-date world class methods and techniques. Pastry Passions serves:
- fresh French style crepes with both sweet and savoury fillings,
- European style cakes such as black forest, cheese cakes and lemon squares
- Jamaican favourites and Caribbean inspired deserts like sweet potato pudding, humming bird cake (featuring banana, coconut and pineapple) and Appleton bread pudding
- cookies and brownies
- natural juices and fresh fruit smoothies
However, the most popular cake in the pastry passion repertoire is the black forest cake. The decor of pastry passions is reminiscent of a French patisserie, featuring dark wood counter tops, wrought iron tables and pink drapery.
HistoryThe original Pastry Passions outlet was opened in Jamaica in 2008 by Safiya Burton-Chisolm. Safiya enjoyed a childhood passion for baking and business, regularly selling home-baked cakes to her school friends. However, after leaving school her interest in baking gave way to a career in finance. After studying a degree in finance at Florida International University, Safiya went on to enjoy a successful career in finance, occupying prestigious positions at American Express, Merrill Lynch, Mellon and First Global Financial Services.
After many years in the financial sector the lure of the kitchen proved to be irresistible, however, not content with the idea of running any mediocre eatery, Safiya returned to the USA and enrolled in a course in classic pastry arts at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan. She then went on to work at the prestigious Gramercy Tavern in New York.
Safiya returned to Jamaica and opened up the first branch of Pastry Passions in January 2008. By sticking to her mission of offering world class pastries and sharing her training with her staff (many of them graduates from UTech) much success followed and Safiya opened a second branch of Pastry Passions (in Manor Park) in 2009.
