Tessanne Chin's second appearance on the Voice was in the first "Battle Round", aired on 14 October 2013. In this round she went head-to-head with Donna Allen, singing Emeli Sandé's 2012 hit "Next to Me". Tessanne won the round with three of the judges' votes (Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green) to Donna's one (Blake Shelton). The judges made the following comments about her performance

• Adam Levine - "I think that you're both world class singers"
• Christina Aguilera - "You took that song to a completely different level"
