On 11 November 2013 Tessanne Chin participated in the second round of the Voice's Live Playoffs. She chose Emeli Sandé's 2012 track "My Kind of Love", making this the second Emeli Sandé track Tessanne had sung in the competition (she previously sang "Next to Me" in the battle round).

In an interview after the song, Tessanne revealed that the song was dedicated to her husband, Michael Anthony Cuff Junior.
