Runaway Bay
Runaway Bay - Between St. Ann's Bay and Discovery Bay
Runaway Bay offers a very different vacation experience from that available at larger resorts such as Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. The resort of Runaway Bay comprises of a string of hotels along the seafront. Whilst providing a tranquil setting to kick back and relax, Runaway Bay is a short journey to some of the north coast's main attractions. There is no real "town" to speak of but there are several small bars, restaurants, supermarkets and ATMs scattered along the coast road providing everything the visitor might need.
Water sports
Water sports are available in abundance in Runaway Bay, mostly operated from the all-inclusive hotels. The area is known for scuba diving, there are coral reefs and wrecks of boats, planes and even cars to explore. Most diving operations in the hotels take customers from other hotels.
Golf
Golfers will enjoy the 18 hole Superclubs Golf Club, use of the 72 par course is complementary for guests staying at one of the Superclubs hotels, non-guests can pay to play.
Beaches
The biggest draw of Runaway Bay are its beaches. Several stretches of white sand beach are laid out before the turquoise Caribbean sea. Most of the beaches are owned by large hotels and are off-limits to non-guests. However, there are two notable public beaches at both ends of town, Cardiff Hall Beach to the West (featuring Flavours restaurant and bar and changing facilities) and Fisherman's beach to the East.
Nearby attractions
A short trip away from the sleepy heart of Runaway Bay are many attractions of interest which can easily be reached on a day trip, including:-
- The Green Grotto Caves - a network of subterranean labyrinths which have been used by many groups of people over the history of Jamaica.
- Nine Mile - Bob Marley's birthplace and final resting place.
- The Seville Heritage Park - site of the first Spanish settlement in Jamaica.
- Cranbrook Flower Forest
- Chukka Caribbean adventures
Runaway Bay is also a short trip from the resort towns of Ocho Rios (30 minutes to the East) and Montego Bay (1 hour to the West) so it is very easy to visit all of the attractions (and nightspots) if you are staying in Runaway Bay.
